Seven's memories of a past event are questioned.

While installing a weapon bought from Kovin, an arrogant Entharan trader, Seven of Nine strikes him when he shoves her. Under hypnosis by the Doctor, she seems to recall that on an earlier visit Kovin stunned her and took Borg nanoprobes from her body. The Doctor builds a case against him, and Kovin faces ruin under Entharan law even as he insists he is innocent.
Further study shows the memory was false, pieced together from Seven's own traumatic past with the Borg and pushed along by the Doctor's eager questioning. Before the crew can clear him, Kovin flees in his ship and fires on Voyager, and his weapons overload and kill him. Seven feels remorse for the first time, and the Doctor asks Janeway to delete the programs that led him to try hypnosis, but she refuses. The fourth-season episode looks at false memories, accusations and justice, and at the risks of the Doctor's growth.
