Admiral Cornwell boards Discovery with footage of Spock's supposed murders, but Saru proves it was faked with holograms. Cornwell believes Section 31's threat-assessment AI, Control, is responsible, and the crew goes to the organization's headquarters.
Burnham, Nhan and Airiam board the station and find the staff dead, including Admiral Patar, whom Control had been impersonating. Airiam, compromised by the probe, tries to upload the sphere's data on artificial intelligence to Control. Fighting the takeover, she asks Burnham to eject her, and Nhan jettisons her into space as she relives a happy memory. Michelle Paradise wrote the episode and Jonathan Frakes directed.
