Harry Kim is given a command on an alien ship.
Harry Kim, frustrated at being overlooked for command, takes charge of an alien Kraylor ship whose officers were killed in an attack by the Annari. The Kraylor say they are delivering vaccines to their homeworld, and Kim names their vessel Nightingale after the famous nurse, with Seven of Nine joining him as an adviser.
Kim struggles to lead, but learns from mistakes with Seven's help. Then he discovers the Kraylor are not doctors but scientists running a cloaking device through an Annari blockade. Feeling responsible for them despite the lie, Kim stays on, and under his command they break free of a tractor beam at the blockade and reach their world. The seventh-season episode is a coming-of-age story for Kim, the series' long-time ensign, and it ends with him accepting that he still has a lot to learn before he is ready to command.
