In this animated short, a tardigrade searching for a nesting place clashes with a repair drone named Dot.
Ephraim, a tardigrade searching for a safe place to lay her eggs, slips aboard the original USS Enterprise and leaves them there, only to be chased off by Dot, a fussy repair drone determined to keep the ship in order. Their running conflict plays out across the ship's history, with Ephraim returning again and again to her clutch as the Enterprise passes through moments from the original series and its films.
When the Enterprise self-destructs, as it does in The Search for Spock, Dot helps Ephraim save the eggs, and after they hatch the two set off together with the babies. The animated short is narrated by Kirk Thatcher in the manner of a nature documentary and uses archival recordings of William Shatner, Ricardo Montalban and George Takei. It was directed by composer Michael Giacchino and written by Chris Silvestri and Anthony Maranville.
