The Starfleet admiral who oversaw the launch of Enterprise and served as Jonathan Archer's superior until his death in a bombing on Vulcan.
Maxwell Forrest was a senior admiral at Starfleet Command and Jonathan Archer's immediate superior during the early years of Enterprise. He championed Earth's Warp 5 programme and approved the ship's launch despite Vulcan reservations, frequently acting as the diplomatic link between Starfleet and the Vulcan ambassador Soval.
Throughout Enterprise's voyages Forrest gave Archer his orders and frequently defended him to the Vulcans and to Earth's government, while at times reining in the captain's more impulsive decisions. When Earth was attacked by the Xindi, he oversaw the mission that sent Enterprise into the Delphic Expanse.
Forrest was later killed when terrorists bombed the Earth embassy on Vulcan, dying as he protected Soval from the blast. The attack was blamed on dissident Vulcans but was actually part of a conspiracy within the Vulcan High Command. His death shocked Starfleet and spurred Archer's involvement in the crisis that reshaped Vulcan society.
