A Starfleet captain and Pike's romantic partner.
Marie Batel is a Starfleet captain who appears in Strange New Worlds. She is a commanding officer of her own ship and a friend of Captain Pike, and the two share a warm bond that develops into a romance.
She is confident, thoughtful and understanding, and she appreciates Pike's efforts and his burden. Their relationship is complicated by the knowledge of Pike's future, which he has seen, and by their devotion to their duties. Because she is a captain, the two meet only occasionally, and each respects the other's mission.
Batel is notable as an example of the peers who share a captain's life, and her presence adds a personal side to Pike's story without distracting from the main adventures.
