A human teacher who married the Vulcan ambassador Sarek and raised Spock on Vulcan.
Amanda Grayson is the human mother of Spock and the wife of the Vulcan ambassador Sarek. She is first seen in Star Trek: The Original Series, where she appears in the episode centered on a family crisis aboard the Enterprise, and later in the animated series and films, and in Discovery.
As a human living among Vulcans, Amanda holds a unique place as a bridge between two cultures. She is warm, perceptive and fiercely devoted to her family, and she offers Spock an emotional understanding that his Vulcan upbringing cannot. In Discovery she also acts as a foster mother to Michael Burnham, helping shape the young woman's early life, and she remains an important figure in the story of Burnham and her adoptive brother.
Amanda is remembered for her gentle strength and her quiet insistence that love and logic can coexist.
