Babel is a neutral planetoid used as a meeting place for interstellar diplomatic conferences. In Journey to Babel, the Enterprise carries more than a hundred delegates, among them Sarek, Gav and Shras, to a conference there on whether to admit Coridan, a planet rich in dilithium, to the Federation.
The voyage is marked by murder, an Orion spy and an attack on the ship, but the Enterprise eventually delivers the delegates. In the animated episode The Counter-Clock Incident, the ship is again bound for a conference on Babel when it is drawn into a reversed universe.
