A Delta Quadrant species with far more women than men, who reproduce by drawing on the genetic material of males from other species.
The Taresians are a Delta Quadrant species from the planet Taresia. Their population has far more women than men, and they reproduce by using the genetic material of males from other species, who are welcomed to their world as returning sons.
In Favorite Son, Harry Kim began to show strange new abilities as his DNA changed, leading him to believe that he was Taresian. On Taresia he was welcomed as an honoured mate, until he discovered that the process would kill him. He escaped back to Voyager.
