Lyris led the Taresians, a mostly female society on the planet Taresia. When Voyager fled to her world from the Nasari, she welcomed Harry Kim, explaining that he had been sent to Earth as an embryo and that his Taresian genes were now awakening.
In Favorite Son, Lyris and her people showered Kim with attention, and he began to believe he had found a new home. The Doctor learned that a retrovirus had altered Kim's DNA. The truth was that Taresians reproduce by draining the genetic material of males, killing them, and Kim had been lured there to die. He escaped with Voyager's help.
