The USS Hathaway was an 80-year-old Constellation-class starship taken out of storage in 2365 for a Starfleet war-games exercise. William Riker was given command, with a skeleton crew drawn from the Enterprise-D, to face the Enterprise under the eye of the Zakdorn strategist Kolrami.
Wesley Crusher and Geordi La Forge got the Hathaway's warp drive briefly working with a tiny amount of antimatter Wesley obtained from a science experiment. When a Ferengi ship appeared and attacked, Picard and Riker staged the Hathaway's destruction with a torpedo strike, and the old ship escaped with a brief warp jump at the last moment.
