In the last days of 2000, Shannon O'Donnell helped persuade bookseller Henry Janeway to sell his store, allowing the Millennium Gate in Portage Creek, Indiana, to go ahead.
The Millennium Gate was a vast building project planned for Portage Creek, Indiana. Most of the town's businesses had sold out to make way for it, but bookseller Henry Janeway refused, and if he held firm until the deadline of 11:59 on New Year's Eve the project would move elsewhere.
Shannon O'Donnell, a traveller whose car had broken down in town, first joined his opposition and later persuaded him to sell at the last minute. She and Henry married, and Kathryn Janeway later learned that her ancestor had never been the astronaut of family legend.
