Babel crisis

Romulan plot against an interstellar peace conference

In 2154 a disguised Romulan drone ship tried to wreck peace talks on Babel by provoking war between Andorians and Tellarites, until Archer united the powers against it.

Enterprise was carrying a Tellarite delegation to a conference on Babel to settle long-running disputes with the Andorians when it answered a distress call from Shran's ship, which had apparently been attacked by Tellarites, and each side blamed the other. The real attacker was in fact a Romulan drone ship that could disguise itself with holograms, and Trip Tucker and Malcolm Reed ended up trapped aboard one.
To find the drones, Archer persuaded Andorian, Tellarite and Vulcan ships to work together in a sensor network. When tensions boiled over, he took the place of a Tellarite in a ritual duel with Shran and won by cutting off one of the Andorian's antennae, sparing his life and keeping the alliance together.
The trail led to the Aenar, a telepathic Andorian people, one of whom the Romulans had been forcing to pilot the drones. With the Aenar Jhamel's help, the drone was destroyed. The cooperation among Earth, Vulcan, Andoria and Tellar was an important early step toward the Coalition of Planets and later the Federation.
