A powerful being who plays at being a nobleman toys with Kirk and his officers.
Kirk and Sulu vanish from the bridge of the Enterprise and turn up on Gothos, a rogue planet in a region empty of stars. A landing party that follows them finds a castle and its owner, Trelane, who calls himself a squire and is fascinated by Earth's past, which he has observed only through light that left Earth centuries ago.
Trelane can create matter at will and treats the officers as toys, eventually putting Kirk on trial and hunting him through the woods. The game ends when Trelane's parents, beings of pure energy, appear and scold him, revealing that he is a child. William Campbell played Trelane.
