A strange planet that appears out of nowhere in a star desert, home to the mock castle of the childish being Trelane.
Gothos is a planet the Enterprise finds where none appeared on its charts, in a region empty of stars. Its surface is harsh and its atmosphere unbreathable, but its master, Trelane, maintains a pocket of air and warmth around his imitation castle.
In The Squire of Gothos, Trelane snatches Sulu and Kirk from the Enterprise and later draws the landing party into his parlour, filled with relics of Earth's past as he has observed it from afar. When Kirk breaks Trelane's machinery, the being continues his game until his parents intervene.
