The powerful, childish being Trelane abducted Enterprise crew members to his planet Gothos and toyed with them until his unseen parents called him home.
In 2267 the Enterprise came across a rogue planet, Gothos, in an empty region of space. Sulu and Kirk vanished from the bridge and were found in an imitation of an 18th-century European manor ruled by Trelane, who styled himself a squire and general. He had studied Earth's past from a distance and acted like a spoiled host, staging dinners, dances and mock battles.
Trelane would not let the ship go, and he put Kirk on trial and arranged a deadly hunt. Kirk found the machine that gave him power and broke it, but Trelane recovered. Just as he was about to execute Kirk, two energy beings, apparently his parents, scolded him and ended the game.
