A record-breaking transporter attempt by Scotty turns everyone aboard except Spock into puppets just as Orion pirates board the Enterprise, in an episode that proves to be a dream.
While Scotty attempts to set a transporter distance record, an accident transforms everyone aboard the Enterprise except Spock into puppets. Orion pirates then board the ship, and Spock is left to face them largely on his own.
Pike is blown out into space but survives because he is a puppet. The puppet crew overpowers some of the Orions, and Spock subdues the rest by outlasting them in holding his breath. Spock then wakes up, and T'Pring tells him the whole adventure was a dream. The season's puppet episode was directed by Jordan Canning.
