A hologram of Barclay offers a path home, but it is a trick.
The monthly datastream from the Pathfinder project delivers a hologram of Reginald Barclay with news of a route home through a geodesic fold, which requires modifying the shields and inoculating the crew. The Doctor grows suspicious of the hologram, but a check of its program finds nothing wrong.
On Earth, the real Barclay realizes his hologram was intercepted. With Deanna Troi he learns that his girlfriend Leosa was working with Ferengi who had reprogrammed it, planning to let the fold kill Voyager's crew so they could harvest Seven of Nine's Borg nanoprobes. Barclay bluffs the Ferengi into closing the fold, and the hologram's last attempt to abduct Seven fails when Voyager beams them back.
