Burnham takes Adira to Trill to unlock the memories of the symbiont Tal, while Saru tries to help the crew cope with their losses.
Adira cannot reach the memories of the symbiont Tal's previous hosts, including Admiral Senna Tal, so Burnham takes them to the Trill homeworld. Many Trill object to a non-Trill host, and some try to take the symbiont by force, but the Guardian Xi helps Adira into the Caves of Mak'ala.
There Adira learns that the symbiont passed to their partner Gray after Senna, and to Adira after Gray was killed, and recovers their memories. Gray's consciousness now speaks to Adira. On Discovery, Saru and Culber look after the crew's morale, including a movie night. Hanelle M. Culpepper directed.
