A micro-wormhole offers a way home but not quite as hoped.
Voyager's crew finds a tiny wormhole that seems to lead back to the Alpha Quadrant, though it is far too small to fly a ship through. After the crew make contact with a Romulan vessel on the other side, Janeway works with its captain to try to find a way to get home, only to face difficult decisions about trust.
The episode is one of the first to hold out realistic hope of a swift return, and the way it plays out sets the tone for what would become a recurring pattern in the series, where promising chances are lost at the last moment. It is also notable for including a Romulan guest character.
