Starfleet enlists Dr. Arik Soong to help find his genetically engineered Augments, who have seized a Klingon ship.
In 2154, Augments, genetically enhanced humans raised by Dr. Arik Soong, seize a Klingon Bird-of-Prey and kill its crew. Archer takes Soong from prison to help track them through the Borderland between Klingon and Orion space. Brent Spiner plays Soong.
Orion raiders capture several crew members, including the newly commissioned Commander T'Pol, and Archer needs Soong's help to free them from a slave market. Among the Augments, Malik kills their leader, Raakin, then brings the Bird-of-Prey alongside Enterprise and forces Soong's release. Soong declares that they must now obtain the remaining Augment embryos. The episode was directed by David Livingston and written by Ken LaZebnik.
