A Starfleet admiral and Freeman family friend who secretly built automated warships and erased Rutherford's memories to hide it.
Vice Admiral Les Buenamigo was a senior Starfleet officer and an old friend of the Freeman family. He approved Captain Carol Freeman's plan for California-class ships to revisit planets the fleet had passed by, and appeared to be one of her allies. He is voiced by Carlos Alazraqui.
In truth he was developing the Texas class, fully automated starships, and had been responsible for wiping Rutherford's memory to cover up the young engineer's involvement. He steered the Cerritos into a Breen ambush on Brekka so his new USS Aledo could rescue it, then proposed replacing the California class entirely.
When his scheme was exposed, Buenamigo gave the Aledo full autonomy and ordered it to destroy the Cerritos. Its artificial intelligence, built on code derived from Badgey, refused and killed him by firing into his office, then turned on the rest of Starfleet.
