Michael Burnham's mother, a scientist whose experimental time-travel suit made her the mysterious Red Angel before she was stranded in the far future.
Gabrielle Burnham was a human scientist and the mother of Michael Burnham. With her husband Mike she worked in secret on a time-travel project for Section 31, and when Klingons attacked the family's research outpost on Doctari Alpha she escaped through time in an experimental suit, leaving her young daughter to believe she had died with her husband.
The crew of Discovery eventually learned that she was the Red Angel, the figure behind a series of signals and sightings across the galaxy. Thrown roughly 950 years into the future, she had seen that the rogue artificial intelligence Control would wipe out sentient life, and she repeatedly jumped back to alter events, always pulled back to the point in time where her suit was anchored.
When Michael reached the 32nd century, she found her mother living on Ni'Var as a member of the Qowat Milat, a sisterhood of Romulan warrior nuns. Gabrielle represented her daughter during a Vulcan trial over the SB-19 data and later joined her on a mission to arrest a renegade Qowat Milat sister.
