A small Delta Quadrant people whose colony hid underground after a disaster, leaving Voyager to discover the truth on a gallicite-rich world.
The Sakari were a humanoid people living on a planet rich in gallicite, a mineral Voyager needed for repairs. By the time the ship arrived, little remained of their settlement, and the few survivors had retreated into the planet's caves and were hiding from outsiders.
In the episode Blood Fever, the crew found traces of the Sakari while Vorik, suffering from pon farr, passed the condition to B'Elanna Torres, and Tom Paris tried to protect her during a dangerous mission in the caves. The surviving Sakari revealed that their people had been nearly destroyed by an outside attack, and at the end the crew found a Borg corpse on the surface, a first sign that Voyager was nearing Borg space.
