A warlike feline species from Larry Niven's stories who appear in the animated series episode The Slaver Weapon.
The Kzinti are a large, aggressive feline species created by the science fiction writer Larry Niven for his Known Space stories, who adapted his own story for Star Trek. They appear in one episode of the animated series, The Slaver Weapon.
In that episode, Spock, Sulu and Uhura are carrying a stasis box left by the long-vanished Slaver empire when they are captured by a Kzinti crew. The Kzinti had fought several wars with humanity in the past and lost every one, and under the peace terms they were allowed only police vessels. They hope the box holds a weapon that will let them restore their power.
The box does contain a powerful and dangerous Slaver weapon with several settings, which the Kzinti try to master. Spock tricks them into choosing a setting that makes the weapon destroy itself, and the Enterprise crew escape with their lives.
