The Eska are hunters who make regular trips to Dakala, a rogue planet drifting without a star. Wearing camouflage gear and sophisticated scanners, they treat the planet as a game reserve. Enterprise met them while studying Dakala, and the Eska were friendly to the crew.
The hunt took a darker turn when Archer encountered a mysterious woman who turned out to be one of the planet's native shapeshifters, a creature the Eska were tracking. Archer gave the shapeshifters the means to evade their pursuers, putting him at odds with the hunters.
