The Cochrane was a shuttlecraft from USS Voyager that the crew modified in 2372 to test a new form of dilithium that might allow travel at warp ten, a theoretical limit at which a ship would occupy every point in the universe at once.
In Threshold, Tom Paris piloted the Cochrane and briefly crossed the warp ten barrier, returning with wild data and soon suffering severe mutations. He abducted Kathryn Janeway and took the shuttle back to transwarp speed, and the two evolved into amphibious creatures on a distant planet before Voyager recovered them.
