A fast, agile Starfleet class of the 2370s with bio-neural gel packs and swing-up warp nacelles, best known through the USS Voyager.
The Intrepid-class is a Starfleet starship class introduced in the early 2370s. Smaller than the great explorers of the age, it was built for speed, science and versatility, with a crew of around 150. Its systems use bio-neural gel packs, organic circuitry that speeds up the computer but can fall ill, and its warp nacelles pivot upward when the ship goes to warp. Intrepid ships can also land on a planet's surface.
The USS Voyager, launched from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in 2371, is the most famous member of the class. Pulled into the Delta Quadrant on its first mission by the Caretaker, it spent seven years making its way home with a mixed Starfleet and Maquis crew. Other ships of the class include the Bellerophon, which carried Admiral Ross and Julian Bashir to Romulus during the Dominion War.
The class is a symbol of resilience in Star Trek: Voyager, holding together far from any starbase. Later ships such as the Voyager-A continued its line, and Intrepid ships are seen across the later shows.
