A non-Federation planet at war with its neighbor Kasar, whose scientists altered the Jikaru creature into a weapon.
Lutani VII is the non-Federation planet the Enterprise aids in What Is Starfleet?, during its war with the neighboring planet Kasar. The crew is ordered to transport a Jikaru, a creature the Lutani altered into a weapon, to the war zone while Beto Ortegas films a documentary about Starfleet.
A ship of Lutani scientists who regret the alterations attacks the Jikaru and lets it escape. Nyota Uhura learns that the creature wishes to die, and after the Enterprise leads it into a star, the Federation offers to protect the Jikaru homeworld from the Lutani.
