Majel Barrett

Actor — Christine Chapel, Number One, Lwaxana Troi

American actress whose Star Trek roles ran from Number One in the first pilot to Christine Chapel, Lwaxana Troi and the voice of Starfleet computers.

Majel Barrett (1932–2008), later credited as Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, was an American actress whose association with Star Trek spanned more than forty years. She played Number One, the Enterprise's first officer, in the original pilot The Cage, a part the network did not carry forward.
She returned as Nurse Christine Chapel in the original series, voiced Chapel and many other characters in The Animated Series, and played Chapel again in Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. In The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine she played the flamboyant Betazoid ambassador Lwaxana Troi, mother of Deanna Troi.
Barrett was also the voice of Starfleet computers across The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and the films, recording the computer voice for Star Trek (2009) shortly before her death. She married Gene Roddenberry in 1969 and remained closely involved with the franchise after his death.
