When war broke out between the Federation and the Klingon Empire over the planet Organia, its seemingly simple inhabitants revealed vast powers and forced both sides to make peace.
In 2267 negotiations between the Federation and the Klingon Empire broke down, and war began. The Enterprise was sent to Organia, a strategically placed planet in the disputed zone, while a Klingon force under Kor occupied the planet. Kirk and Spock went down disguised as traders to organize resistance, but the Organians, who looked like peaceful villagers, refused to fight and seemed untroubled by the Klingon executions.
As the two fleets prepared to clash, the Organians revealed their true nature. They were beings of pure energy, far more advanced than either power, and they made every weapon on both sides too hot to touch, on the planet and in space. They announced that the war was over and that they would not allow it to resume.
The resulting Organian Peace Treaty set the terms of relations for years. It allowed disputed planets to be developed by whichever side could show it would use them most effectively, a rule that shaped the competition over Sherman's Planet. Though the two powers remained rivals and still clashed through proxies, the treaty kept them from open war for a long time.
