In 2154 two Organians secretly took over members of Enterprise's crew to watch how humans would respond when Hoshi Sato and Trip Tucker caught a deadly virus.
The Organians were studying how younger species dealt with a crisis and chose not to interfere as the silicon-based virus spread through the landing party. Phlox worked to save Sato and Tucker while the crew faced the prospect of losing them.
Archer realized something was wrong and confronted the Organians, arguing that compassion was a better guide than detached observation. Moved by the crew's willingness to risk themselves for each other, the Organians cured the pair before leaving.
