In 2152 a small band of Ferengi boarded Enterprise, knocked out the crew and began looting the ship, making first contact without ever giving the name of their species.
The raiders used a gas to render the crew unconscious and set about stripping the ship of anything valuable. Trip Tucker had been in decontamination and escaped the effect, and he worked with Captain Archer to fight back.
Archer played on the Ferengi obsession with profit, turning the raiders against each other until they gave up their loot and left. Because the Ferengi never told the crew who they were, humans would not formally learn the species' name for another two centuries.
