Ryn is an Andorian held as a servant by the Emerald Chain on the salvage planet Hunhau. In Scavengers he is among the prisoners freed when Michael Burnham and Philippa Georgiou stage a prison break while rescuing Cleveland Booker and recovering a black box from the Burn.
In The Sanctuary, Kyheem Booker reveals that Osyraa's interest in Kwejian is partly about recovering Ryn. Discovery keeps her from taking him by attacking her ship with Book's vessel, and Osyraa retreats while promising retaliation against the Federation.
In There Is a Tide, Ryn is held hostage with Discovery's bridge crew after Osyraa seizes the ship. He helps the bridge crew escape, but he and Book are recaptured, and Osyraa kills Ryn, an act that horrifies her own scientist Aurellio and helps turn him against her.
