A hospitable species offers a technology that would speed the journey home.
Voyager is welcomed by the hospitable Sikarians, who offer shore leave and the chance to relax after months of travel. When Janeway learns that the Sikarians possess a technology that could cut years from the journey home, she must decide how far she is willing to go in trying to obtain it.
The story places Starfleet principles under pressure, because the Sikarians refuse to trade the technology and some crew members are tempted to take it by other means. It is a notable early example of the series pushing its moral code to see where it might break.
