Neelix keeps Naomi Wildman occupied with a holodeck storybook while her mother is missing after a shuttle crash.
While the crew is on a dangerous mission, Neelix looks after Naomi Wildman and tells her stories, but a crisis forces him to reveal the truth about what is happening. Naomi is the child of one of the crew members.
The episode is a gentle and warm story that takes place mostly from a child's point of view, and it is a showcase for Neelix, who is at his best in a parental role. It also shows the human side of life aboard Voyager, and it is mixed with a story of an away team in trouble.
