Archer helps a deuterium mining colony stand up to Klingon raiders who regularly take the fuel by force.
Enterprise needs deuterium and finds a small mining colony willing to trade. The crew learns that the colonists are regularly visited by a band of Klingons who demand much of their output, leaving them barely able to survive.
Archer and his officers decide to help the colonists defend themselves. T'Pol teaches them how to fight, and Reed and Tucker set up a trap that uses the colony's deuterium to repel the Klingons without killing them. The raiders are driven off. The story is modeled on classic western and samurai village-defense tales. It was directed by Mike Vejar, with a teleplay by David Wilcox.
