At an ancient archive, Burnham faces a mental test set by an AI for the final map piece while power shifts among the Breen.
At the Archive, the archivist Hy'Rell leads Burnham to the manuscript hiding the last map piece and gives Book a cutting of his people's World Root, lost with Kwejian. Burnham enters a mental simulation in which an AI in Book's likeness tests whether she is worthy, while Book and Rayner fight off a Breen attack.
Burnham admits that her fear of failure and loss drives her, which earns her the fragment and instructions for reaching the technology. She hands Ruhn the completed map to spare the Archive and stages Discovery's destruction. When Ruhn decides to destroy the Archive anyway, Moll exploits the unrest among his forces, kills him and takes command. Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour directed.
