A 24th-century Trill scientist who helped hide the Progenitors' technology and briefly returned through Hugh Culber to test Burnham and Book.
Jinaal is a Trill and one of the 24th-century scientists who found the Progenitors' technology and hid the pieces of a map to it, featured in Jinaal. When Michael Burnham's team reaches Trill, Jinaal's memories survive in the Bix symbiont, and Hugh Culber agrees to have Jinaal's consciousness transferred temporarily into his own body.
Jinaal leads Burnham and Cleveland Booker into the wilderness, where large creatures defending their nest attack. Book calms them with his empathic abilities, convincing Jinaal that the pair can be trusted, and he hands over his piece of the map. Culber is left shaken but retains knowledge from Jinaal that later helps in Life, Itself.
