Ortegas and Scotty wake from shore leave with memory gaps and must recover a missing shuttle and stop a bomb aimed at peace talks.
On the way to host peace talks in the Rodaxian system, Pike gives his exhausted senior staff shore leave at Cesnar Grand, a technology-free resort whose atmosphere leaves visitors giddy and intoxicated. Ortegas and Scotty, who have been feuding over her hard driving of the engines, wake with no memory of the previous day and must piece together what happened and get everyone back to the Enterprise in time. Along the way they lose the shuttle's key chip, cross the resort's host Dendru, played by Dave Foley, and find that James Kirk is vacationing there too.
In the shuttle, the pair admit their irritation comes from feeling inadequate beside each other's talents, and they become friends. The crew makes it back, Pike greets the Rodaxian delegation still intoxicated, and a bomb hidden aboard the shuttle explodes in a display that happens to resemble a Rodaxian rite of peace, saving the talks.
