Odo takes Vic Fontaine's advice on love.

A new holosuite program features Vic Fontaine, a 1960s Las Vegas lounge singer who knows he is a hologram. Vic sees that Odo loves Kira but is too reserved to act, and coaches him, persuading him to play piano and setting up a double date with holographic women. Odo grows more relaxed, but a hologram resembling Kira leaves him unsatisfied.
Vic then invites the real Kira to dinner on Odo's behalf and tells Odo he will meet an improved Kira hologram. When Odo learns his romantic evening was with the real Kira, he storms off in embarrassment. Kira, who has told him she is not involved with Shakaar, confronts him, their argument turns into an admission of feeling, and Odo finally kisses her. The sixth-season episode introduces Vic, who becomes a recurring confidant to the crew, and begins the Odo and Kira romance after years of buildup.
