A Q wishes to die and asks Janeway for help.
A member of the Q Continuum is found frozen in a comet, and when he is freed he asks for asylum on Voyager, hoping to be allowed to die. Q arrives to oppose the request, and a hearing is held aboard the ship to decide the matter.
The episode is the first appearance of Q in Voyager and ties the series to the wider Star Trek universe. It also raises the question of whether an immortal being has the right to choose death, and Janeway ends up playing the role of a judge in a difficult case, with serious consequences for the Continuum.
