American actor who played Q, the omnipotent trickster of the Q Continuum, from The Next Generation's pilot through Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Picard and Lower Decks.
John de Lancie, an American actor born in 1948, played Q, the omnipotent and mischievous member of the Q Continuum who put humanity on trial in the Next Generation pilot Encounter at Farpoint. His sparring with Picard became a recurring thread of the series, which closed with Q's return in the finale All Good Things....
De Lancie appeared as Q in episodes including Hide and Q, Q Who, in which Q flings the Enterprise into its first encounter with the Borg, Déjà Q, Qpid, True Q and Tapestry. He took the role to Deep Space Nine in Q-Less and to Voyager in Death Wish and The Q and the Grey, and returned in Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Lower Decks.
His other work includes a long run on Days of Our Lives, the role of Donald Margolis in Breaking Bad, and voice work such as Discord in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
