Vexilon is an ancient computer system that controls Corazonia, an idyllic space habitat. By the time of In the Cradle of Vexilon its performance is deteriorating, and Captain Freeman attempts to repair it.
Freeman's efforts cause Vexilon to shut down, throwing Corazonia's ecosystem into chaos. Boimler's away team reactivates a power plant they had been sent to decommission, allowing Freeman to reset the computer. The reset causes the plant to explode, killing Boimler, who is later revived by Dr. T'Ana.
