A young Vulcan Starfleet officer who served with Kirk and Spock in the Star Trek films of the 2280s.
Saavik is a Vulcan Starfleet officer introduced in the film The Wrath of Khan, where she is a cadet and Spock's protegee. Played in that film by Kirstie Alley, she takes the Kobayashi Maru test at the start of the story and serves aboard the Enterprise during the confrontation with Khan, and she sheds tears at Spock's funeral.
Robin Curtis takes over the role in The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home. Now a lieutenant, Saavik is assigned with David Marcus to the USS Grissom to study the Genesis planet, where they find a young Spock regenerated by the Genesis effect and aging rapidly. She helps him through his accelerated growth, including the onset of pon farr, until Kirk's crew arrives.
In The Voyage Home she stays on Vulcan when Kirk and his crew set out for Earth. She is remembered as a student of Spock's whose presence gave the films a fresh view of Vulcan discipline.
