Petra Aberdeen is a smug former Starfleet officer who left the service to become an archaeologist. She first meets Mariner and Boimler in Reflections at the job fair on Tulgana IV, where she mocks their recruitment booth before offering Mariner a job outside Starfleet.
In Trusted Sources, after Freeman transfers her to Starbase 80, Mariner resigns her commission and joins Aberdeen on her archaeological expeditions.
In The Stars at Night, Mariner grows suspicious about where Aberdeen's money comes from and learns that her work is funded by Jean-Luc Picard. When Admiral Buenamigo's Texas-class ships attack Starfleet, Aberdeen and Mariner arrive with the other California-class ships to help defeat them. Aberdeen was voiced by Georgia King.
