A violent prisoner bound for execution whose brain damage was repaired by Borg nanoprobes aboard Voyager, giving him a conscience for the first time.
Iko is one of the prisoners rescued from a damaged Nygean prison transport in Repentance, being taken to his execution for murder. He is brutal from the start, taking Seven of Nine hostage in sickbay, and later suffers a severe beating at the hands of his Nygean guards.
To save his life, the Doctor treats him with Borg nanoprobes, which also repair a defect in his brain and give him the capacity for empathy. Iko is overcome with remorse, and he bonds with Seven, who sees her own struggle for atonement in him. Under Nygean law his victim's family decides his punishment, and they refuse to spare him.
