Sickbay is the medical facility aboard a starship or station, equipped with biobeds, diagnostic systems and surgical tools for treating the crew.
Every Starfleet vessel has a sickbay run by a chief medical officer, from Dr. Leonard McCoy on the original Enterprise to Dr. Beverly Crusher on the Enterprise-D. Biobeds track patients' life signs continuously, and the facility includes a laboratory, isolation areas and an office for the doctor.
By the 2370s, many sickbays could also activate an Emergency Medical Hologram. Aboard Voyager, the holographic Doctor became the ship's full-time physician and spent years confined to sickbay before gaining a mobile emitter.
