Large, furry animals of Vulcan with long fangs, kept as pets by Vulcan families, most famously Spock's companion I-Chaya.
Sehlats are big, bear-like animals with thick fur and long fangs, native to Vulcan. They can be dangerous in the wild, but Vulcan children often keep them as pets. McCoy once joked about Spock's childhood sehlat as a fat teddy bear in Journey to Babel.
In Yesteryear, the young Spock wandered into the Vulcan desert with his aging pet I-Chaya, who saved him from a le-matya but was poisoned in the fight. Spock chose to let him die peacefully rather than prolong his suffering. A wild sehlat also prowled the Vulcan desert in The Forge.
