Humanoids from the resource-poor world Barzan II who tried to auction rights to a wormhole, and whose number includes Starfleet officer Nhan.
The Barzans come from Barzan II, a world with few natural resources. Barzans who live among other species wear a respirator to help them breathe in atmospheres unlike their own.
In the 2250s, the Barzan officer Nhan served under Christopher Pike as a security officer aboard the USS Enterprise and later aboard Discovery, travelling with it into the 32nd century. She eventually chose to remain with the USS Tikhov to help guard its seed vault.
In The Price, the Barzans invited the Federation, the Ferengi and others to bid for a wormhole that seemed to lead to the Delta Quadrant. Data and La Forge found that its far end was unstable, making it worthless, and the negotiations, already manipulated by the secret empath Devinoni Ral, fell apart.
